Participation in the MST
Participating in the Moral Sense Test is quick and easy, and puts you at the center of an exciting research project. Before you begin, it is important that you read the information on this page. It describes the test, the conditions under which you should take it, and how to make sure it will load properly on your computer.
The Moral Sense Test asks you to answer several hypothetical questions. As a subject, you will only be given a small sample of the scenarios we are currently testing. Our complete data sets combine the responses of many hundreds of subjects taking different tests, each with different scenarios.
The test is composed of 23 questions. Most subjects finish in 10-15 minutes. Please allow yourself enough time to complete the test without interruption. Please do not discuss the questions with anybody else, or consult any texts or outside material, while you are taking the test. This version of the test is for fluent English speakers only.
Before the test begins and after it ends we would like you to answer some general background questions. Your answers to these questions, along with your answers to the test questions, are kept strictly confidential. You can read more about the precautions we take to protect your confidentiality in our privacy policy.
If you experience technical difficulties, please first read the FAQ and then, if your problem is still not resolved, report it.
Finally, we ask that you only take the MST once. If you wish to participate in future versions of the MST, you will be provided the opportunity to register at the end of the test.
I am aware of the possibility of encountering personal challenges with my answers to the MST, as well as possible disagreements with the interpretations of my MST by the researchers responsible for this web site. Knowing this, I wish to proceed.
